The Sierra Philharmonic League is presenting the 23rd Annual Pops in the Park, July 4 The Orchard House, 188 Carson St. in Genoa, two blocks south of Mormon Station.
The event, usually held at Mormon Station, is at The Orchard House this year while the station is under renovation. There is no charge to attend.
Individuals and families can bring their own picnic lunch or buy it from the Genoa Country Store, which will be open all day. The league will sell wine, beer and water, as well as patriotic souvenirs, flags, balloons and 2006 Pops in the Park T-shirts. Shirts will also be available from previous years.
There will be more than 200 items in the silent auction, including items for children as well as adults, original art work, vacations in Hawaii, Colorado and Utah. The silent auction starts at 1 p.m.
Violinists from the Carson Valley Violin School will perform from 1-4 p.m. From 2-4 p.m. there will be a "petting zoo" featuring 10 instruments and music instructors from Maytan Music. Doc-O and Squeeky the clowns will be doing face painting and balloon sculpture from 2:30-4:30 p.m.
The main event will begin at 5 p.m. with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra playing a variety of patriotic music with Barry Jakowsky conducting the orchestra. There will also be a chance for audience members to conduct the orchestra.
