Three Carson Valley arts programs are Nevada Arts Council grant recipients

The Carson Valley Arts Council in Minden and the Sierra Philharmonic League and Sierra Nevada Ballet, both in Genoa, were all recipients of Nevada Arts Council grants awards.


The Sierra Philharmonic League received a $5,430 project grant, the Sierra Nevada Ballet was given a $5,758 Partners in Excellence grant and the Carson Valley Arts Council was awarded a $3,246 development grant.


The grants were awarded on May 24 at the arts council board meeting. In total, 78 grants totaling $439,193, were handed out. The grants support statewide arts and cultural activities for 2007. Another 29 arts organizations will receive $465,262 in 2007 for the second half of the Partners in Excellence - Tier II two-year-grants awarded last year.


Grants are awarded in the following categories: Challenge grants, up to $50,000,; design arts grants, up to $10,000; project grants, up to $4,000; development grants, up to $4,000; and Partners in Excellence grants, a two-year funding grant.


The Nevada Arts Council was founded in 1967 as a state agency charged with developing and promoting the arts in Nevada. Statewide programs include Artists Services, Arts in Education, Community Arts Development, Folklife Program and Grants.


The Arts Council supports the work of Nevada artists, arts organizations and institutions and is funded by the Nevada State Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts and other public and private sources.


The Nevada Arts Council is a division of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs. The department serves Nevada's citizens and visitors through cultural and information management, preservation and promotion of cultural resources and education.


The department also includes the Division of Museums and History, State Historic Preservation Office, State Library and Archives, Comstock Historic District Commission, Literacy Coalition and the Commission for Cultural Affairs.
