If gardening is your passion, why not become a master gardener volunteer? Apply for the fall Master Gardener training program, offered by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Sept. 5 Ð Nov. 1, 6:30 Ð 9:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is a mandatory orientation meeting at 6:30 p.m., July 12. Both the training and the orientation are held at the Carson City Cooperative Extension office, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 12. The training will also be videoconferenced to the Cooperative Extension offices in Douglas County and Yerington.
Specialists from University of Nevada and the Nevada Division of Agriculture will present a wide variety of topics, including botany, insects and plant diseases, lawn care, growing fruit trees, vegetable gardening, planting, pruning, and more. The registration fee is $140, which includes all classes, class materials, a Master Gardener handbook, a Master Gardener T-shirt and badge, and refreshments.
