With at least 20 gigs scheduled in Nevada, California and Oregon in June, July and August this year, Mumbo Gumbo is a band that has obviously made a name for themselves across the West Coast.
The group's popularity was apparent at its performance Friday night for the June concert in the 2006 Summer Family Concert Series at Minden Park, where, for Minden, a huge crowd of people were present.
Re/Max Realty Affiliates and Schwan's handed out 984 ice cream sandwiches to concert-goers. Rumor has it that was all the ice cream they had, and they could have given out more. Mumbo Gumbo's performance was sponsored by Re/Max, Bing Construction and Sorensen's Resort. Re/Max had Frisbees that were distributed to the crowd.
Food and refreshments were sold by the 20/30 Club, with all proceeds going toward community youth programs.
Mumbo Gumbo self-describes their music as: New Orleans' second line and rhythm and blues, rockabilly and country waltzes, singer/songwriter-style ballads, (---)-shaking cumbias, edgy blues rock, Afro-Cuban trance singalongs, conga-line-inspiring whachamacallits and mutant gypsy folk.
