The Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse is hosting its annual Spring Equine Clinic and Tack Sale. This year's event will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 18 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road in Gardnerville.

The Great Basin Equine veterinarians will be at the fairgrounds providing annual spring vaccinations and services such as sheath cleaning and teeth floating at a discounted fee. These vet clinic services are available by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling Great Basin Equine at 265-7800.

The tack sale is an opportunity for horse enthusiasts to buy or sell tack, horses, horse trailers and other horse-related products. There will be a number of vendor booths featuring new and used tack, horse care products and western accessories. Vendor spaces are still available for a cost of $20 in advance or $30 the day of the event. There will also be space to sell used trailers along with pens for those interested in selling horses.

This year's event features informative demonstrations on trailer loading, hobbling, tack care, tacking up of the horse and a special presentation on basic western roping. Demonstrations will begin at 10 a.m. and run throughout the day. The posse will be serving food and beverages, with a chili luncheon planned. A Nevada brand inspector will be on-site to handle equine change of ownership and transportation permits.

The mounted posse will be selling tack as a way to raise funds. If you wish to donate new or used tack, a collection barrel has been set up at Great Basin Equine. If your donations are too large for the barrel, please call 265-7124 for pick-up. All donations are tax deductible. This is the posse's biggest fundraiser of the year so take the time to clean out your tack room and donate to the posse.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse is a non-profit organization supporting charitable and public service activities within the community, promoting health and safety among equine enthusiasts, and assisting the sheriff's office as needed. The posse's fundraisers provide funds for high school scholarships, Posse equipment and training, and charitable contributions to the community. Visit the Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse at their membership booth, join in the fun and take advantage of the vet clinic and tack sale.
