A Johnson Lane woman was charged with two counts of felony child abuse after deputies found her home piled high with garbage when they went to investigate why her two children weren't in school.
Johanna Marie Thomas, 41, posted $50,000 bail and is to appear in court on March 27.
Her children were placed with Child Protective Services.
Deputies said no one answered the door at the home in the 1300 block of Cathy Lane when they knocked at 10:30 a.m. March 17.
They said the windows were covered up with blankets and books.
Shortly after their arrival, they were contacted by dispatch who said Thomas reportedly called from a residence they traced to Stephanie Lane wanting to know why deputies were at her home.
Thomas returned to the Cathy Lane residence and admitted that the children, ages 9 and 15, were inside.
Deputies said trash, garbage and furniture were piled 3-5 feet high in every room except one bedroom.
Deputies found garbage in a bathtub and clothing and trash piled so high in the laundry room, they had trouble opening the door.
The sink was missing in one of the bathrooms.
n Two Gardnerville men face burglary and larceny charges in connection with the theft of a safe from the Ruhenstroth home of an acquaintance of one of the suspects.
Richard Daniel Reynolds, 19, was charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary and is being held on $27,500 bail in Douglas County Jail.
Brian Douglas Bradley, 24, was charged with burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy and was being held on $52,500 bail.
The suspects are to appear before East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl today.
According to reports, Bradley is accused of driving Reynolds to the Pinto Drive residence.
Reynolds reportedly came out of the house with a basket of laundry and the safe.
The pair is accused of breaking open the safe and taking a motor vehicle registration, Social Security cards and other paperwork.
The owner said the safe also contained $100 and two checks.
The safe was found under a blanket in a trash can behind Bradley's residence.
n A 25-year-old Gardnerville man was jailed March 20 on $25,000 bail accused of sales of a controlled substance.
Ernest Eugene Ottowa also was charged with conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
He was arrested at a residence in the 1400 block of Kimmerling after an investigation by the sheriff's office into the sale of methamphetamine.
According to court reports, Ottowa has nine prior criminal contacts.
n An Indian Hills couple was arrested March 17 on warrants from Churchill County.
Annessa Mary Vanroy and Edward Lee Vanroy, both 38, were wanted on drug charges.
Edward Vanroy had warrants for ex-felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
Annessa Vanroy had warrants for trafficking in a controlled substance and possession.
n A 21-year-old Gardnerville man was charged with harassment and contempt for threatening employees at Scolari's and Douglas County deputies who arrested him.
Deputies were called to the Gardnerville store March 20 after complaints that Thomas Victor Montgomery was yelling obscenities in the store. He reportedly tried to leave with two liquor bottles in his jacket.
Deputies said Montgomery originally gave a false identification and yelled obscenities all the way to Douglas County Jail.
He also reportedly threatened deputies and tried to grab an officer as he was being booked into jail.
Montgomery was charged with obstructing an officer, harassment and threats and contempt.
He was jailed on $2,500 bail.
