It's a day many around the Douglas High School track and field community thought would never come.
After many years of trying to raise the funds to install an all-weather track at the high school, Douglas will begin work on that - and much, much more.
The school will officially kick off construction on the project Monday at 3:30 p.m.
Ray Sidney, owner of Minden land development company Big George Ventures, will present Douglas principal Marty Swisher with a check for $1.6 million.
The large donation will go toward massive improvements to the track, football field and surrounding area but two of the more notable additions will be the all-weather suface on the track and artificial turf with orange end zones and a large tiger head at the 50-yard-line.
The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period and the groundbreaking.
The event is open to the public.
