Tigers return to pool

The Sigala sisters came up big for the Douglas High School swim team over the weekend against Galena after a nearly one-month hiatus from competition for the Tigers.

The Tigers won four races against the Grizzlies and the Sigalas had a hand in each one.


Josefina Sigala won the 20 IM and the 100 butterfly and Sara Sigala won the 100 breaststroke. The duo also teamed with Katie O'Neill and Whitney Simpson to win the 400 freestyle relay.

Sara Sigala also took third in the 100 butterfly, Kaylee Hames took second in the 200 free and the 500 free, O'Neill took second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free, April Epps took second in diving, Virginia Evans took third in the 100 breaststroke and Rebecca Chappell took third in the 500 free.


Galena managed to pull away with a 177-118 win in the girls' meet.

On the boys' side, Ben Weiss led a Tiger sweep in the 100 free, taking first ahead of Blake Maxwell and Ryan Dykes.


Marco Hyman took first in the 500 free and Ryan Fore led a sweep in the diving competition, followed by Holden Sapp and Joey Sellers.


Weiss also took second in to 100 fly, followed by Hyman in third and Sean Vogl took third in the 100 backstroke.
