Staff Reports

Today is the last day to file for elected office in Douglas County.

As of press time on Thursday, countywide races were limited to the two county commissioner seats and public administrator. Filings on Thursday may force two of those races to primaries.

District 2 county commissioner David J. Brady is being challenged by former KGVM Radio owner Lloyd Higuera, both Republicans. The District 4 county commission seat being vacated by Genoan Tim Smith is being sought by Republicans Nancy McDermid, Janet Murphy and Kingsbury Democrat Greta Granville Hambsch. Independent American Sam Dupuis and Republican Jay Lather are challenging Republican Lynn EnEarl for public administrator.

Races have developed for East Fork Justice of the Peace, East Fork Swimming Pool District, Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District and the Indian Hills General Improvement District.

Minden attorney Kelly Chase is challenging East Fork Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl for his seat.

So far, five people have filed for East Fork Swimming Pool District including Bernie Benz, Gordon Gray, Kyle Denise Hamilton, Patrick O'Hara and Lesley Solt.

Five have also filed for Indian Hills General Improvement District including Bill Eisele, Riley Edward Evans, Brian Patrick, Denise Pierini and Kathryn Clark Ross.

Four people have filed for Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District including Bill Barnum, Jeff James, Bruce H. Reavis and Al Wagner.

Incumbents are the lone candidates for assessor, clerk-treasurer, recorder, sheriff and all four open school board seats. Incumbents were the only candidates seeking positions on the town boards of Minden and Gardnerville and the Minden-Gardnerville Sanitation District at press time.

Only one candidate has filed for Topaz Ranch Estates General Improvement District and no one had filed to serve on the Douglas County Mosquito Abatement District.
