Coming off a solid win against Manogue Thursday afternoon, the Douglas softball team saw its season come to an abrupt end Friday against the No. 4 Reed Raiders.
Reed opened up with four runs in the first and cruised from there, sending Douglas home in five innings with a 12-0 victory at Carson High School in the loser's bracket.
Reed had suffered a loss to Spanish Springs earlier in the day, but beat the Tigers and then beat Reno to advance to the consolation finals Saturday. The Raiders lost to McQueen there.
For Douglas, it was a frustrating afternoon in which the Raiders scored five runs in the third inning despite only putting up one hit.
The Tigers got hits from Morgan Barone, Skyler Zulian and Lauren Hoppe in the loss, with Hoppe's hit going for a double.
Mitzi Olsen started the game in the circle, taking the loss to drop to a respectable 10-8 on the year, and shared pitching duties with freshman Stephanie Harper.
Harper was just one of several underclassmen getting their first taste of the regional playoff atmosphere last week.
Douglas returns a solid core of starters next year and will be joined by several talented athletes from the junior varsity squad that went undefeated this year.
The Tigers wrapped up the year with an 18-14-1 record overall and a 13-8 record in league play.
