The striking of a medallion commemorating Minden's 100th anniversary is 11 a.m. Friday at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St., in Carson City.

Featuring original artwork by Gardnerville resident Joe DeLorey of the old bandstand which once stood in Minden Park, 500 silver and 100 gold-plated coins will be minted at the museum, according to Minden Town Office Manager Sheila Byington.

Nevada's seal from 1906 will be pressed on the flip side of the coin.

The medallions are selling for $25 for silver and $30 for gold-plated coins.

The town is taking orders for the medallions at 782-5976.

DeLorey drew the Gardnerville logo and patches for the Washoe Tribe and the Nevada National Guard.

Minden is hosting its celebration of the town's centennial on July 2 with a luncheon, music and tours of the town.

The town is putting up historic signs at its earliest homes and a brochure will be available for self-guided tours.

The Carson Valley Almanac, The Record-Courier's annual magazine, is devoted to the town's centennial and will be distributed on Friday.

Subscribers will receive the magazine at their home. Free copies will be available at The Record-Courier's office, at 1503 Highway 395, Suite G, in Gardnerville.
