A 90-year-old Topaz Ranch Estates resident has been identified as the man killed in a collision Friday afternoon at Highway 208 and Albite Road in Topaz Ranch Estates.
Darrell David Daugherty who has a home on Sandstone Drive was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-car accident.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Daugherty had just turned east onto Highway 208 in a blue 1993 Ford Taurus when he collided with a gold 2000 Ford F-350 pickup also travelling east.
Sgt. Mark S. Clark of the NHP said Daugherty turned into the path of the pickup, driven by Windre L. Atchison, who hit the Taurus from the rear.
The accident is still under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Anyone with information, is being asked to contact the Highway patrol at 688-2500.
Residents of Topaz Ranch Estates have initiated a petition calling for turn lanes off Highway 208 to the major intersections of Pearl Road, Topaz Ranch Road and Albite Road.
n A Minden woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 395 at Genoa Lane at about 6:55 p.m. Saturday. Nicole Alexandria Reinholz, 28, was taken to Washoe Medical Center by Care Flight ambulance helicopter. The accident occurred when Reinhold drove off the right side of the highway and then hit a tree off the road edge. The 2000 Chevrolet Metro rolled over and came to rest on its top.
Highway Patrol spokesman trooper Chuck Allen said there were some serious accidents over the Memorial Day weekend.
"All in all we had some issues, but the fatality was the worst that happened," he said.
