A Carson City man was jailed Oct. 31 on $25,000 bail after he reportedly walked out of Wal-Mart without paying for alcohol, tools and a 32-inch flat-screen television.
Edward Lee Parkins, 28, was charged with burglary after a store security employee allegedly observed him walking out with a shopping cart filled with a bottle of rum, an air wrench, a car stereo and the television set.
The items were worth nearly $1,000.
When confronted by deputies, Parkins claimed to have drunk a half-gallon of vodka before he came to the store.
n A Johnson Lane woman who put up a fight with Douglas County deputies called to her house for a domestic battery report was jailed Oct. 29 on $28,500 bail.
Mary Leighton Ray was jailed on charges of battery that constitutes domestic violence, battery on an officer and obstructing an officer.
Deputies said they were called to her Johnson Lane residence about 8 p.m. and she put up a fight, shouting obscenities and threatening the officers.
She hit one deputy with her hands and resisted attempts to take her into custody. She was put on the ground and handcuffed, but refused to walk to the patrol car, so she was carried.
Once in the back seat, Ray reportedly made several attempts to kick out the windows and continued to scream at the deputies.
Officers hobbled her legs to the back of her handcuffs and transported Ray to Douglas County Jail.
She continued to yell obscenities and threats during booking and pounded her head on the booking glass window.
Deputies said her husband refused to fill out a complaint, and said they had been drinking.
Picture frames, plants and furniture had been thrown about the residence, according to the report.

Similar writing was reported Nov. 1 at Stodick Park in Gardnerville.
The graffiti read "Southside," "SUR 13," "DISTURBED ONE" and obscenities.
Cleanup estimates ranged from $50 to $100.
n The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported 11 contacts for domestic violence Oct. 25-31.
That includes four verbal domestics, two adult arrests and two juvenile arrests for domestic battery, one possible violation of a protection order, one referral to the District Attorney for review or prosecution and one referral for an arrest warrant for violation of a protective order.
Two juveniles were arrested for domestic battery against each other and three juvenile witnessed domestic battery for five contacts.
The Family Support Council submitted two requests to East Fork Justice Court for temporary restraining orders with two approvals and three anti-stalking and harassment orders with two approvals and one pending.
Connie Richardson, sheriff's office domestic violence prevention coordinator, said the average range for domestic violence contacts is 12-14 per week for this time frame.
The average range for children witnessing domestic violence is 9-11 per week with juvenile suspects at 0-2 per week.
