The Douglas County Senior Center will be conducting the seventh annual United Service Organizations Veterans Day Celebration, from 10:30 a.m. to noon today at the Douglas County Senior Center located at 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville.
This day is designed to honor the local men and women who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. The master of ceremonies will be Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini. Music will be performed by Kitty Murphy and Robbi Jacobsen and their Gardnerville Elementary School classes, and also Diane Buffalo and Mark Jelen. Uncle Sam will be on hand to welcome everyone. The VFW Post No. 8583 will do the flag presentation.
The day will also feature pictures and memorabilia from local veterans, as well as displays from World War II and the Korean War.
Lunch will follow the ceremony.
All veterans and widows of veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms and/or medals. For further information, contact the senior center at 783-6455.
