Widow denies taking husband's money

The widow of a Minden-Tahoe Airport mechanic whose body was found in the desert near Johnson Lane pleaded not guilty Tuesday to allegations that she forged checks and stole money from her husband's business.

Karen Bodden, 43, pleaded not guilty to one count of grand theft and two counts of uttering a forged instrument.

She is in custody in Douglas County Jail on $115,000 bail with a hold from the Nevada Department of Parole and Probation.

District Judge Dave Gamble set a Feb. 21 date for the trial, which is expected to last up to four days.

She was arrested Sept. 11 in connection with an investigation of the disappearance of her husband, Robin Bodden, who owned General Aviation Services at the Minden airport.

He was reported missing Aug. 17 by his sister and his badly decomposed body was discovered Sept. 10.

Karen Bodden has not been charged in connection with her husband's death.

Douglas County Sheriff's Lt. Steven Orr said Tuesday investigators are still waiting for toxicology reports from Washoe County to determine the cause of Bodden's death which is categorized as "non-natural."

Bodden is on four years' probation for a 2004 conviction of embezzling $44,000 from her former employer, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
