The Settelmeyers were enjoying dessert with their victory on Tuesday night. Dave Brady and Nancy McDermid were enjoying an evening at home with their families and Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl took down his election signs before the polls closed and then went home.

We have one new county commissioner and an entire slate of new state constitutional officers. The fax machine jammed, the computer crashed, all in all it was par for the course for a Record-Courier election night.

Voters turned down all three Douglas County ballot initiatives. Question 1, which came the closest to winning, will hurt the most. The seniors must be disappointed in the results of Question 2, which would have built a new senior center. No one is surprised at the results of Question 3, placed on the ballot by the Douglas County Historical Society. But perhaps a little publicity will help in their fundraising efforts.

The wind's up and the barometer's down and the clouds are peeking over the Sierra.

There's a 30 percent chance of rain showers today, according to the National Weather Service. The chance that it's going to breezy and much cooler is 100 percent. Today's high temperature is forecast to hit 66 and it's already 61 out, so wave to that as it passes. Temperatures behind the front are supposed to drop, with the high on Thursday going all the way up to 48. More weather is due Friday and Monday.
