The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club hosted a four-man scramble at the Carson Valley Golf Course Sunday, marking its last tournament of 2006.
The team of Jeff Schreiber, Patrick McKay, Mick Ryan and Ray Gardiol won with a score of 61.
Ed Kollar, Charles Serafine, Augustine Martinez and John Elliott tied with Paul Jorgenson, Dennis Joseph and Neil Bain at 64 for second place.
There was also a three-way tie for fourth place at 65 including the teams of Mike Davis, Jim Korzeniewski, John Kollar and Gerry Bing; James Howard, D. Dick, Jerry Maddox and Kelly Werth; and Terry Clore, Mary Lane, Robert Kiltz and G.J. Paulsen.

Hole in one
Roger Cartwright of Gardnerville scored a hole in one on the third hole of the Comstock River Red course at Empire Ranch Golf Course last week during the weekly Senior Skins Tournament.
Roger used an eight iron on the 155-yard par 3 hole.
The shot was witnessed by George Cole, Jack Eldridge and Wayne Keppinger.
Teen basketball league
The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is taking registration for the new teen basketball league through Dec. 1 and the season will begin on Jan. 13.
Cost is $65 for ninth- through 12th-grade boys and girls and includes all equipment, official fees, awards and uniforms.
Each team requires a volunteer coach. The department is also continually looking for officials and scorekeepers as well as team sponsors to help reduce the cost to participants.

U10 & U12 spring soccer tryouts
The Toiyabe League is an AYSO-ruled competitive spring series of coach-selected teams from throughout the region.
Games are typically conducted in Carson City and Carson Valley, though some travel may be required to surrounding areas.
Tryouts for U10 and U12 boys and girls will be Nov. 11 at Gardnerville Elementary School from 9 a.m. to noon.
The cost for the league is approximately $40 but uniforms and tournament fees are extra.
Teams usually play two games per week with three tournaments (two local, one away).
Participation is by coach selection and not all children trying out will necessarily be selected. The number of teams formed is limited.
Elements conducting tryouts
The Elements Reloaded U11 and Elements United U14 and U16 soccer teams will hold open tryouts for the spring 2007 season Nov. 15 and 22 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Stodick Park and Nov. 18 and 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at Stodick.
Tryouts are open to all girls between the ages of 9 to 15 interested in competitive level soccer.

Pirates tryouts
The Carson Valley Pirates spring soccer team will conduct tryouts Nov. 16 from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. and Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to noon at Lampe Park.
All second-year U12 players and all U14 are welcome.
The Pirates enjoyed a successful season last year and are hoping for another solid season.
Practices will be made flexible to accomodate other winter sports.

Tenacity tryouts
Tenacity, a U18 girls' soccer team, will be conducting tryouts Nov. 12 and Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
Players should meet between field 1 and 4.
WNCC coach Hillary Arthur will provide training for the team. To be eligible for the team, prospective athletes must have been born between Aug. 1, 1988 and July 31, 1991.

Douglas in-line roller hockey
The youth division of the Northern Nevada Inline Roller Hockey League is scheduled to begin in November 2006.
Club teams for varsity and junior varsity are being formed to represent the Douglas County area against teams from other schools in the region.
Students in seventh through 12th grade are invited to participate.

Old Guys Basketball
Men 35 and older interested in playing pickup basketball are invited to the basketball court in the Pastoral Center at St. Gall Catholic Church every Sunday at 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
After teams are chosen, games go either full-court or half-court depending on how many show up. The sessions are strictly for fun and exercise.
Cost is $50, which is donated to the church for court upkeep. The sessions run from September to June.
