About 20 Marine veterans attended the annual Marine Corps birthday celebration in East Fork Justice Court on Friday.

Founded Nov. 10, 1775, the birthday celebration has been a long tradition for East Fork Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl, who served from 1963 to 1966.

Oldest Marine present was Don Bowman, who joined the Marine Corps in 1939 and is a Pearl Harbor survivor.

He was served cake by Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Leland Love, who served in the Marines in the mid-1990s and participated in the decommissioning of the American military base in Subic Bay, Phillippines. It is tradition that the oldest Marine present is served cake by the youngest.

Decked out in his dress blues was Lake Tahoe Marine William Kerr.

"It's nice to be back with my comrades," said Bowman, a veteran of the battle for Guadalcanal.
