There are parades and gatherings to observe Veteran's Day in Northern Nevada, just nothing in Carson Valley. Both Virginia City and Reno will hold a parade. They both begin at 11 a.m. There will be plenty of folks at the Reno parade, so I suggest Virginia City's observance. County offices are closed today and are the schools.

Tonight is the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce's gala dinner and awards ceremony where the Valley's business community says thank you to those who contribute to making this a great place to live. Tonight's dinner is at 6 p.m. in Genoa.

It's 24 degrees out and the barometer is falling. The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of rain tonight and a really big chance for Saturday.

The high temperature today should hit 56 and the low this evening will drop below freezing with a 30 percent chance of rain. That chance shoots up to 70 percent on Saturday. That storm should blast through on Saturday and appears to be followed by another one on Sunday night.
