When you hear a knock, donate to food closet

Every year the Douglas High School chapter of National Honor Society participates in its largest community service event, the annual Thanksgiving Food Scavenger Hunt.

This year's scavenger hunt will take place 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Members race around the community and gather as much food as possible in three hours for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.

Over the past three years, NHS has collected over 4,000 pounds of food to donate, just before Thanksgiving.

If you would like to help families of Carson Valley through the holiday season, be prepared to donate canned goods and other nonperishable items to NHS members who will be visiting homes door-to-door.

Have a happy holiday season by helping those less fortunate have a happy holiday too.

For information about this event, call Veronica Perra, DHS National Honor Society adviser, 782-5136, ext.1227, or NHS president 783-1152 or 450-1558.
