Jacks Valley Elementary School students have a plan to make 15 families happy at Thanksgiving and are looking for donations of turkeys to go with the other ingredients of the feast they are putting together.

The school population is collecting food right now for a food drive organized by the student council. The food baskets will be put together Nov. 21 and distributed by the principal in time for Thanksgiving.

Counselor Jackie Hostler said the student council is helping create a climate of caring by organizing the holiday food drive.

"We decided to do Thanksgiving baskets for families from JVES with any extra food going to the food closet," said Hostler. "The fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders are collecting food in the classrooms."

"In our class, we decided what we're going to bring and we cross it off the list when we bring it in," said Lexi Lane, 11.

"Everyone is going to bring what they can," said Hostler. "Hopefully we can fill up the whole stage."

The students thought making baskets of food was the right thing to do at this time of year.

"It's sharing and caring," said T.J. Hinson, 11.

Donations of turkeys can be dropped off during school hours at Jacks Valley Elementary School, 701 Jacks Valley Road. For more information, contact Jackie Hostler at 267-3267.
