Leadership class puts on a 'Lennafit'

There are blue flyers all over the walls at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School advertising the leadership class' dessert social for a fellow student who needs a prosthetic leg. The fundraising event is called a "Lennafit" in honor of ninth-grader Lenna Fagan.

The leadership class was made aware of Lenna's need for the leg with the microprocessor knee by their teacher Lorna Doerr. They combined their plans for a fundraiser with the one held by Lenna's family and friends Nov. 18 at St. Gall Catholic Church.

The 23 students helped collect items for the silent auction and raffle but their main contribution is to make and serve apple bars, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, a "pie or two" and other desserts at the Leg for Lenna Benefit.

The purpose of the leadership class is to make school a welcome place for Pau-Wa-Lu students as well as to work on community projects. Leadership's Lennafit was funded through money raised by the class during the school year.

"This is a bunch of really great students," said Zoe Greenberg, leadership teacher for the eighth and ninth graders.

"This project is great because we'll be able to see the fruits of our efforts. They decided to make some money and we'll see what happens - we'll see Lenna every day."
