This morning, the first in a two-day marathon planning commission meeting to discuss requests to amend the master plan starts at 8:30 a.m.

Most of the morning will be taken up with the 10-year update of the master plan. The meeting kicks off at 2 p.m. today with a request by Bently Nevada to change 161 acres of land zoned forest and range from 1 home to 19 acres to rural residential, allowing up to one home per 5 acres above Coyote Road in the East Valley and in Fish Springs and 20 acres from agricultural land on the north side of Airport Road to Industrial.

A warm, wet and blustery storm sent the snow levels back up the Sierra, but dropped half an inch of rain in Sheridan Acres on Monday. Sheridan weather watcher George Uebele recorded a high wind speed of 59 mph during the storm. The temperature at daybreak is 47 degrees and wind has died way back. According to the National Weather Service, the high wind warning expired at 4 a.m. Winds 14 mph gusting up to 30 mph are predicted for today with a high temperature not quite reaching 50.

A high wind warning is still in effect for Highway 395 through Washoe Valley and there are road controls in effect for the Mt. Rose Highway, but otherwise all roads are open for travel.

A power outage in Minden and Gardnerville lasted less than 20 minutes on Sunday. No word has been received on the extent of the outage or its cause.
