A 15-year-old Douglas High School sophomore who ran away from her Gardnerville Ranchos home more than two weeks ago was found safe in Sacramento.

Officials said Friday that Ashley Eaken had been taken into custody with another juvenile.

Ashley's mother, Teresa Taylor, said authorities were working to bring her daughter back to Douglas County.

"I'm assuming she is OK," Taylor said Friday. "I am just happy to hear she was found."

Ashley ran away on Oct. 30, according to her mother.

Taylor suspected her daughter left home because the girl was afraid she was facing incarceration at Aurora Pines juvenile facility for girls south of Gardnerville.

"I feel so much better that she's been found," Taylor said. "It's kind of like what's next? What do we do to prevent this from happening again?"

Taylor had posted fliers throughout Carson Valley seeking information about her daughter.

Douglas County sheriff's investigator Ron Elges handled the investigation locally with some assistance from authorities in California after officials suspected Ashley left the state.
