Boy Scouts score big with food drive

editor:

The Boy Scouts of Minden and Gardnerville earned a big "thank you" from the Carson Valley Community Food Closet with the success of their Nov. 11 food drive. The scouts distributed flyers announcing a pick-up date for canned food donations and then returned on the 11th to collect the donated goods. In fact, they collected a total of 5,850 pounds of canned goods. Head scoutmaster, Shep Curtis coordinated the drive. This is just one example of what a group can do to help the community when they work together for a worthy cause.

The food closet distributes food to qualified recipients in Douglas County. With the support of local grocery, bakeries and food outlets the shelves are kept stocked. During the holiday season grocery needs are unusually higher. The Boy Scouts food drive really boosted the food available for the families in need.
