Sixteen teens from Douglas High School, Carson Valley Middle School and Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School came together on Nov. 15 for a day-long educational opportunity to study the deadly effects of tobacco use, so that new members could become teen teachers and established members could spend the day planning school and community events.
The students worked together learning leadership and presentation skills so that they can go out into the community and share their knowledge of the dangerous and debilitating effects of tobacco products and second-hand smoke.
These dedicated youth plan to share their knowledge with ninth graders during their health classes as well as fourth- to sixth-grade classes in Douglas County. This is an effort to decrease the number of young people that start the deadly habit of tobacco addiction.
Douglas County Teens Against Tobacco is sponsored by the Partnership of Community Resources. Call 782-8611 to schedule a presentation for a classroom or a club.
