New wildlife director interviews coming

The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners will interview 10 applicants for the position of Wildlife Director when they meet in Reno on Dec. 7-8.

The board will recommend at least three candidates to the governor's office, with the final selection made by the governor.

Former Wildlife Director Terry Crawforth retired from the agency in July, after 37 years with the agency.

The interviews and deliberations are open to the public, and will be held at NDOW headquarters at 1100 Valley Road, Reno

Applicants for wildlife director are: Robert Buonamici, of Reno, Chief Game Warden at NDOW; K.L. Cool, of Payson, Ariz., a retired Director of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources; Bruce Crawford of Olympia, Wash., a former assistant director at Washington Fish and Wildlife; William J. Culligan, of Westfield, N.Y., a Fisheries Supervisor at the New York Game and Fish Department; Doug Hunt, of Reno; Deputy Director, and currently Acting Director, at NDOW; Russ Mason, of Reno, Game Bureau Chief, NDOW; Kenneth E. Mayer, of Sacramento, Calif., a Branch Chief for the California Department of Fish and Game; David Sanger, of Reno, a staff biologist with NDOW; Bruce R. Schmidt, former Fish Research & Development Director, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife of Damascus, Ore., and San Stiver of Prescott, Ariz., a former staff biologist with NDOW.

The Board of Wildlife commissioners will interview applications and select at least three nominees for consideration by the governor.

The wildlife director serves at the pleasure of the governor.
