The R-C Morning Report

The National Weather Service is predicting the snow level will drop down to 6,500 feet by Wednesday in what promises to be the first damp week of fall.

High temperatures will drop into the lower 50s and 60s and the Weather Service is saying several inches of snow could fall in the higher elevations. Might be a good time to re-evaluate those plans for that big Rim Trail hike.

Today will be mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of rain. The high will hit 70 degrees and then begin the long slide. The roads are wet this morning, so be careful. About a fifth of an inch of rain fell overnight.

Welcome to meeting week in Douglas County. Tonight the Candlelight Vigil for the victims of domestic violence will be 6 p.m. at Lampe Park.

On Tuesday both Gardnerville and Genoa Town Boards meet. Gardnerville gathers at 4:30 p.m. and has a pretty short agenda. Genoans will meet at 7 p.m. and are scheduled to discuss Candy Dance. A petition is expected to be presented to the board in support of former Town Manager Tom Peters.

On Wednesday, Minden is scheduled to discuss bringing back the 6 p.m. siren as a tribute to firefighters. The siren has been going on and off for the last couple of weeks since the county ordered it silenced. Douglas County commissioners meet 1 p.m. Thursday at the old Court House in Minden to wrap up the week.

Nearly 60 people turned out to say farewell to Genoa Town Manager Tom Peters on his last day Friday. Peters said he wants to continue to do volunteer work for the town and believes he would be a good Candy Dance chairman. The results of this last Candy Dance would support that claim.
