The R-C morning report

The first snow of the season coated Jobs Peak on Thursday adding to the tiny patches that had survived the summer. At this rate there'll be a glacier by the end of the century, maybe. The chance of precipitation today is down to 20 percent today and decreases over the weekend. It will be a bit breezy as the low moves out, but the weekend should be nice.

They tore down the Gardnerville Arby's on Thursday. The restaurant was the town's first fast food and was owned by the Jacobsen family. There was a time when you could see Jake working on the landscaping out front. Now it is a big pile of debris with a diesel shovel standing on top of it.

A farewell potluck for Genoa post master Emmy Dombrowski is this evening at the Genoa Town Hall. Emmy has been a fixture in town for 21 years, supporting Candy Dance and organizing events that helped keep Genoa going. Good luck, Emmy.

If you happen to be in Gardnerville this weekend and hear musket fire, it's OK. They're holding Heritage Days at Gardnerville's Heritage Park. The park is behind the Overland on Gilman Avenue and will feature Civil War re-enactors. A lesser commentator might point out that Gardnerville was a field during the Civil War or that re-enacting it in Nevada might more accurately consist of getting drunk, singing "Dixie," getting thrown in jail and then having to take a loyalty oath in the morning. But not me.
