The potent Douglas boys' soccer offense had another explosive game Saturday afternoon against Damonte Ranch.
Michael Barnes, one of four different Tigers to have multiple-goal games this season, scored four goals to lead Douglas to a 9-0 victory over the Mustangs to improve to 11-4 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Barnes extended his season total to 13 while Mike Gransbery scored three goals, bumping his season total to 24, moving into third all-time in the Northern 4A for goals in a season.
Andrew Andraski added a goal and an assist, Jake O'Farrell scored a goal and Edgar Arceo had two assists.
Geoff Rahe, Eddie Vega and Oscar Gonzalez each had an assist as well.
Vega has burst onto the NIAA list for assists in a season with 11, which places him fifth in the Northern 4A and 12th all-time.
Jose Alcaraz and Andraski combined for the shutout in net, although the Douglas defense did not allow any true shots.
Gransbery scored again in a 1-1 tie against No. 6 North Tahoe Monday, marking his 56th career goal.
"It was a pretty wide open game from both teams," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said. "Both teams were working very hard."
Vasquez had praise for his goalkeeper, Alcaraz, who recorded 10 saves, including at least three on 1-on-1 breakaways by North Tahoe.
"He did a phenomenal job back there and came up huge for us today," Vasquez said.
Douglas was hurting on defense, with three of its starting fullbacks out due to injury, and a fourth, Kyle Gardner, leaving with an abdominal strain midway through Monday's game.
Jeff Hulsey and Brian Jaggard stepped in to help Rahe and Arceo in shutting down the Tahoe offense.
Vasquez said midfielders Ross Gardner and Vega played strong, winning a number of crucial challenges to disrupt the Lakers offense and Gonzalez and Barnes each created a number of strong opportunities up top.
It was Gonzalez who provided the nice crossing pass to Gransbery to tie the game up in the first half.
Douglas is now 11-4-1 overall and 5-4 in Sierra League play.
