JV/Freshmen roundup: Freshman squad dumps South Tahoe

The Douglas High freshman football team ran its win streak to four Wednesday afternoon at Carson High School, thumping South Tahoe 35-0.


Luke Peterson tossed a touchdown pass to Luis Pina and Cody Spates and Connor Dillon each had excellent games running the ball to lead the Tigers.


The offensive line, which has carried the Tigers throughout the season, was exceptional Wednesday with Danny Bloom, Ryan Moglich, Garrett Tenney, Ryan Lentz and Jacob Phillips leading the way and Walker Higgins, Chris Cargill and David Present filling in well in mop up duty.


Danny King also had a big catch for the Tigers.


Defensively, the Tigers were led by Spates, King, Pina, Moglich, Tenney, Kevin Quenga, Trevor Logan, Johnny Sheerin and safety Michael Whalin.


The Tigers are 4-2 on the year.




JV FOOTBALL


The Douglas junior varsity football team beat South Tahoe 54-7 Wednesday as Ross Bertolone had 132 yards receiving and three touchdowns and Tyler May had 90 rushing yards on 12 carries.


Zach McFadden had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown.




JV VOLLEYBALL


The Douglas junior varsity volleyball team swept past Carson with ease, taking a 25-11, 25-18 victory with ease.


Overall, the Tigers dominated defensively with great digs and good blocking.


Mel Brown had four kills, Mysta Townsell had two kills and Jourdan Burke, Katrina Morgan, Alyssa Hamilton, Christine DuPuis, Lindsay McKay and Rebecca Antti had one kill each for the night.


DuPuis, Edna Meza, Townsell and Jordan Marsh each had five service points in a row. Chloe Trudell added seven assists and Marsh contributed 11 assists.




FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL


The freshmen added three more wins to their record this week to bring their overall standing to 21-1 with their only loss coming to Carson's junior varsity team.


Douglas beat Wooster Tuesday in two games, 25-16, 26-24.


Jessica Nalder had an excellent game passing as the team's libero and Lauren Christensen walked away with three kills.


Jordan Curtis played smart at the net with two kills.


Jamie Lundergreen and Brianna Schinzing both had one ace and Christina Henning served five in a row in game two to bring the Tigers back from a 24-21 deficit.


The freshmen took the match against Carson Thursday in three games, coming back in the second two for the win.


Rebecca Trute walked away with 23 assists and Linsey Glass had nine.


Shelby Bell and Jamie Lorentzen played strong at the net with Bell taking three kills and Lorentzen posting four.


Aracelli Ceballos had an amazing serve game as well.


Douglas topped Whittell Saturday 25-15, 29-25, 15-13 as Lundegreen and Lorentzen each had one ace and Ceballos and Trute each had three aces.


Nalder had another solid match on defense and Clare Mason had two assists.




JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS' SOCCER


Douglas beat Damonte Ranch Saturday 5-0.


Douglas took a 1-0 lead into halftime with six shots on goal.


C.J. Baumgartner connected with an assist from Michelle Gibbons. Douglas was fired up in the second half and peppered the Damonte goalie with 20 shots.


The Tigers scored on a crossing pass from Ashley Hill to Sara Draper and Sage Lyons popped one over the goalie's head off an assist from Jillian Brune.


Gibbons scored minutes later on a nearly identical play. Hill closed out the scoring with a long ground shot from outside.


Douglas' defense was stellar with Clara Ritger, Samantha Ensminger, Sarah Owens, Kelsey Conklin and Shelby Eisele all contributing. Cami Arend was credited with the shutout in her first start as a goalie. Douglas is now 7-3 on the year.
