Despite missing four senior regulars, three of whom are regular starters, the Douglas volleyball team gave No. 1-ranked Whittell all it could handle Saturday at the Lake.
Whittell prevailed 25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-18 in a match that was just added to the schedule several weeks ago.
Both teams fought back and forth through a series of some of the longest rallies seen from the Tigers this season. In three matches against the Warriors this year, the Tigers have taken one game apiece - more than any other Nevada team has taken from Whittell this year.
Jessica Waggoner led the way for the Tigers, scoring nine kills and getting 10 blocks and two aces.
Bridget Maestretti had seven kills and five blocks and Taryn Williams had five kills, two blocks and four aces.
Ali Witteman had two kills and four aces and Jennifer Stice had one kill and one block.
Megan Mitchell put up 25 assists to go with one kill, Mary Lombino had 10 digs and Alyssa Todd two blocks.
The Tigers (16-9, 6-2) were without Danielle Brown, Bonnie Matheson, Megan Myers and Alex Risko.
