Robert Shawhan breezed through his first-round match at the Northern 4A Regional Tennis Championships at Plumas Tennis Center in Reno Thursday, beating his opponent from McQueen 6-1, 6-0.
Shawhan improved his season record to 28-3.
Douglas' Matt McLaughlin had a tough first-round draw, going up against the No. 1 seed out of the High Desert League and lost 6-0, 6-0.
The Douglas girls' singles players also had a tough go of it in the first round aas Morgan Barone dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to the top-seeded player out of the High Desert League and Samantha Barns lost to the No. 8 seed from Galena 6-1, 6-0.
The Douglas doubles teams of Trevor Mitchell-Josh Vega, Andrew Soloman-Spike Neri, Sarah Barnhill-Patty Salazar and Cesarina Ceglia-Kristy Jilk were all set to open their tournaments on Friday.
