Band hits sour note with neighbors

One man's music may be a neighbor's nuisance, according to a complaint filed with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Two residents in the 1300 block of Chichester Drive complained three times the week of Oct. 9 about the music being produced by a neighbor's garage band.

But, the 36-year-old band leader said he sound-proofed his three-car garage including exterior insulation in the walls and attic and double insulation of the doors and windows.

He also said he purchased a decibel meter and had been making readings around the neighborhood while the band practices.

He told the deputy he never turns up the equipment past level 3.

The deputy asked the band to perform and he stood outside listening at the homes of the people who complained and down the street.

His assessment? "Not overly loud," according to the report.

"I would equate the level of noise to being next to a car at a stop sign that has its stereo up for a favorite song. But I can also see if you had to listen to the music over and over again. It would become very annoying."

The band agreed to knock off for the night and the deputy recommended they contact the District Attorney's office for advice.

Both were intoxicated, according to reports, and Solomon admitted providing the alcohol to the 16-year-old.

Deputies found three other juveniles in Solomon's vehicle and all had been drinking.

Solomon was sentenced to 180 days in jail, suspended, provided she violate no laws for one year.

She was ordered to spend two consecutive weekends in Douglas County Jail.

She must abstain from drugs and alcohol and may not have minors in her home except her children.

Solomon is subject to random search and seizure for drugs and alcohol.
