The Douglas cross country team enjoyed a successful weekend road trip through Winnemucca and Elko.

Whitney Lindsey and Taylor Biaggi, the Tiger girls' fearsome one-two punch, claimed first and second place respectively at both the Lowry Invitational Friday and the Elko Invitational Saturday.

Lindsey completed the Lowry course in 20:13, followed by Biaggi (20:53) and finished the Elko course in 20:33 to Biaggi's 21:00.

"Whitney ran two really great races back-to-back and she has really made a strong statement about her strength at this point in the season," Douglas coach Keith Cole said. "Taylor is the same way. She was able to run close with Whitney for both races and really dominate the field.

"I was really impressed by Taylor's race tactics. She didn't go out too fast, but was patient over the early part of the race."

The boys took third as a team at Lowry and second at Elko.

David Williams was Douglas' top finisher Friday with a time of 18:04, followed by Derrick Jenkins and Corey Trujillo at 18:47 and 18:51.

At Elko, Seth White, Jenkins, Scott Lococo and Trujillo were the top finishers.

"In each case, the boys really packed together," Cole said. "The time differential between Seth and our No. 5 runner, Charlie Cross, was 1:03, which is much better than I expected. It really shows that they are racing as a team.

"I am excited for regionals to see how the boys will race. Trujillo, Lococo, White and Jenkins have really been coming on strong as of late and have put our team in a great position to qualify as a team for regionals."
