Pops performs Saturday

The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Danny Yale, will perform the music of Mozart, Gershwin, The Beach Boys, Aaron Copeland and more when they present "From Mozart to Broadway" 7 p.m. Saturday at the CVIC Hall in Minden.


The opening selection, "Theme to 2001 Space Odyssey," was arranged for the orchestra by Danny Yale. From Broadway productions and the movies the orchestra will offer selections from "Carousel," "Guys and Dolls," "Porgy and Bess" and "Somewhere in Time."

From the American classical side, the audience will enjoy two pieces by Aaron Copeland: "An Outdoor Overture" and "Prairie Night" as well as "Celebration Dance" from "Billy The Kid." Providing a little kick to the program will be "EspaƱa Rhapsody" by Chabrier. The audience is in for a treat when Tony Chieffo interprets "Misty" with string orchestra accompaniment. The orchestra will accompany bassoonist, Joan Young, in the "Mozart Concerto for Bassoon."


There will be a raffle of artwork, a gift certificate toward expert carpet, upholstery or tile and grout cleaning by the owner of "A Better Carpet Cleaner," and other season items. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.
