The Douglas varsity football team wasn't the only Tiger squad to claim a league title Friday night.
Douglas' junior varsity football team buttoned up a perfect season in league play and improved to 8-1 overall with a 35-26 win over Reno.
Tim Rudnick passed for 296 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Tigers in the win.
Ross Bertolone had three touchdown catches and 200 yards receiving and Zach McFadden had a touchdown.
Tyler May ran for 65 yards in the win.
FRESHMAN FOOTBALL
Douglas jumped all over Reno from the opening drive and walked away with a 42-13 win.
The Tigers scored on their opening three possessions and cruised from there.
Douglas' offensive backfield, running the Power I formation, was dominating with Jordan Cruz, Cody Spates and Johnny Pollack.
Linemen Garrett Tenney and Ryan Moglich stood out in opening up holes for the Tiger running backs.
Douglas blocked a punt and an extra point and recorded three interceptions in the win. The Tigers are 5-3 on the year and 4-1 in league play.
JV BOYS' SOCCER
Douglas (10-3-1, 8-3) beat Reno 1-0 Saturday. Ben Wood scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick.
Goalie Corbin Zumpft posted the shutout and Fabian Ramos, Brian Randall, David Henia, Cole Kline, Nick Hales and Wood all had solid games.
JV VOLLEYBALL
Douglas swept South Tahoe 25-11, 25-22 Tuesday.
The team played excellent defense all match.
Jourdan Burke had four aces and four kills, Mel Brown had one ace and three kills, Christine DuPuis had one ace and four kills, Mysta Townsell had two aces and three kills and Rebecca Antti had one ace and two kills.
Lindsay McKay had five digs and Jordan Marsh served eight straight points with three aces and 10 assists.
Chloe Trudell contributed 12 assists and served four straight service points.
Douglas topped Hug 25-19, 25-12 Thursday.
Brown had five service points with three aces. Katrina Morgan had six straight service points and two aces and Trudell served eight straight with three aces and one jump-serve ace.
Edna Meza served four straight points with two aces and Marsh had nine service points and four aces.
Townsell had three straight points and one ace.
Antti had two service points with one of them being a jump serve and DuPuis added four service points with an ace.
Brown, DuPuis, Trudell, Marsh and Alyssa Hamilton each had two kills.
Antti had three kills and Burke had two kills.
McKay had five digs, Marsh contributed eight assists and Trudell added 10 assists.
Douglas is not 11-1 in league play and 22-3 overall.
