The Nevada Highway Patrol is responding to an injury accident at Highway 50 and Lake Village Road at 7:03 a.m. Motorists are warned to expect possible delays.

With less than two weeks before election day, early voting is progressing at a brisk pace.

More than 1,300 people had voted in the first three days, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and if the trend continues that number passed 1,500 on Wednesday. Early voting continues today and there will be a shortened schedule on Friday for Nevada Day.

Next week early voting will close on Friday so the clerk's office can prepare for election day.

While Friday is the official Nevada Day holiday for state and county workers, the big parade is always 10 a.m. Saturday.

People ask me why the state didn't decide to have a Monday off instead of Friday, which is a little counter intuitive given the federal system of Monday holidays.

It's so people from distant parts of the state can travel to Carson City and participate in the parade.

Back before the three-day holiday, Nevada Day would fall on the state's actual admission's day, Oct. 31. This year that would have meant the parade would have been on Tuesday. Not really convenient for those from Elko, Ely or Las Vegas to attend or participate. We would also move trick or treating, so the children wouldn't be on the street when a somewhat inebriated Nevada Day crowd got loose.

The weather for the weekend looks glorious, according to the National Weather Service.

Early risers might want to wear a jacket, but Saturday's forecast is sunny with temperatures climbing up to 70 degrees. There's no precipitation in the forecast through next Wednesday.

Today's high temperature in Minden will climb to 61. The low is predicted to drop to 26.

The R-C's weather station must be broken, because it claims it's 19 degrees in Genoa at sunrise. The emergency back-up thermometer reads 24, which though far more believable, is still pretty brisk.
