Volleyball: Tiger spikers get past Wooster

The Douglas volleyball team faced an upstart Wooster Colts squad in its final tune-up before the Northern 4A Regional playoffs Thursday, but managed to pull out the victory in four games.


Wooster came out for the match much-improved on defense, but Douglas still had to much to counter with offensively, taking the 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19 victory.


Alex Risko led the way with 12 kills and eight digs and Jennifer Stice added 10 kills, three digs and one assist.


Jessica Waggoner had 10 kills, three blocks and one dig and Megan Myers and Alyssa Todd each had six kills. Todd added an ace and Myers had three digs, one block and three assists.


Megan Mitchell dished out 42 assists, four kills, seven digs, one block and one ace.


Danielle Brown had two kills, Kaelie Hall had one kill, one dig and one assist and Mary Lombino had six digs to lead the team defensively. Bonnie Matheson had two assist.


Douglas must now take on McQueen Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Galena High School in the first round of the playoffs.


Reed and Damonte Ranch will meet up in the other match in the bracket while Galena, Reno, Carson and Fallon are in the other bracket.
