Tonight's the night for little spooks to be wandering the streets, so keep an eye out. Since it's getting dark at about 5 p.m., they'll be out in the neighborhoods right around commute time. Also those of us who are out later, should watch out for revelers coming back from Halloween parties. If you go out, designate a driver. Most of all, be careful.
An even scarier prospect is meeting week in Douglas County with Genoa and Minden both meeting Wednesday night and the Douglas County commissions in session on Thursday.
Minden meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and the Genoans gather at 7 p.m. Gardnerville won't meet until next week, it being the first Tuesday of the month and all.
County commissioners will kick off the opening of the newly reconfigured shooting range before their regular meeting on Thursday.
The Weather Service is forecasting a dry Halloween with a chance of precipitation building starting Wednesday night and then growing as the week progresses until it hits 40 percent on Saturday. But then they also predicted a 10 percent chance of moisture on Monday when there was not a single cloud in the sky all day. The high today should hit 62 degrees, the low 25.
The temperature in Genoa is before sunrise is 26 degrees and the barometer is climbing.
An accident at Highway 395 and Johnson Lane at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday was reported as non-injury by the Nevada Highway Patrol. The accident closed a northbound lane while authorities went around picking up nails that had spilled on the highway.
Today is supposed to be the last day for road construction on 2.6 miles of Highway 50 west of Glenbrook, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
Work on paving adjacent to the roadway and shoulder construction is expected to be completed opening the road to four lanes again. However, bridge construction on Spooner grade between highways 395 and 28 is expected to continue until next summer.
