A celebration of life is 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at the family residence in Gardnerville for Jessie "Jim" Fernandez, 67, a Gardnerville resident for the last 9 years, who died Aug. 25, 2006, after a battle with cancer.
He was born Mar. 6, 1939 in La Habra, Calif. and lived there until his retirement from Ralph's Grocery Company in 1997. He was a shop steward and member of the Teamsters Union during his career with Alpha Beta/Food 4 Less/Ralph's. He was known for his generous nature and eagerness to help anyone with anything. He loved to hunt, camp, volunteer his time for the many functions in the area and spend time with his family and network of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ricardo and Dora, and his brother Henry Fernandez. Mr. Fernandez is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Fernandez; daughter Darla Fernandez of Gardnerville; son and daughter-in-law Todd and Cathie Fernandez of Reno; granddaughter Alyssa Fernandez; grandson Tyler Fernandez; brother Alfred Giglio and wife Gloria of Bellflower, Calif; sister Esther Renfro (Pete, deceased) of Lakewood, Calif; sister Connie Gilkerson (Frank, deceased) of Fullerton, Calif; sister Marie Hankins and husband Bob of Sonora, Calif., and a large extended family.
