Food Closet gives thanks for support

The Carson Valley Food Closet received numerous donations for the month of July. The support from the community provides food to assist qualified individuals and families in need. The community donations are a vital part of this successful program.


The following donations were received for July. Food donations (pounds): Farmer's Market (693), Mike Smith (332), Lion's Club (120), Trinity Lutheran Church (121) Coventry Cross Church (16), Donna Witham (10), Molly Jordan & friends (100), Douglas County Public Library (50), Candy Wood (5), Subway Sandwich (38), St. Gall Catholic Church (563), and Christ Presbyterian Church (35). Regular grocery/bakery sponsors: Raley's, Scolari's, Smith's, Sugar Plum Bakery, Costco and Starbucks.


Cash donations: Johnny and Mary Fauria, Kevin Servatius, Douglas County Republican Women for Kathy Augustine, Douglas County Republican Central Committee, Sierra Nevada Republican Women, Marie Machetta, John Williams, Delahay Appraisal, LWML Trinity Lutheran, Jethro's, Business Bank, Hamdogs, Ace Hardware, Bonnie Fettic, Merrill Construction, State Farm/Raker, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Carson Valley Sertoma, J&S Digital Satellite, R.O. Anderson, Coventry Cross Church, and Raley's customers and employees.


The Food Closet greatly appreciates each and every donation, large or small. If you would like to contribute to this program with food items, volunteer time, or make a cash donation contact Eileen Boettiger, director or Donna Kurtz, assistant director at 782-3711 for information. The Food Closet is located at 1255 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville and is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. Currently we are in need of toiletry items, paper goods and spaghetti sauce.
