The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club hosted an individual stroke play tournament at the Carson Valley Golf Course Sunday.


Terry Clore won the A flight after shooting a 67. He was followed by Jeff Schreiber in second with a 68, G.J. Paulson in third with a 70 and Wayne Graham in fourth with a 71.


John Dorman and Fred Coons tied for first in the B flight, each shooting a 64. Roger Hala shot a 66 to take third and Pat McKay shot a 67 to take fourth.


John Koller won the C flight with a 64. Gary Schreiber took second with a 69, Richard Torok took third with a 71 and Gerry McCarthy took fourth with a 72.


Neil Bain won the D flight with a 65, Gil Causton took second with a 67 and Marty Lane and Richard Boettiger each shot a 71 to tie for third.


Bill Centers won closest to the pin honors with a shot landing 4 feet and 7 inches away from No. 1. Jimmy Koreniewski came within 5-3 on No. 17.


Two weeks ago, the club hosted an individual stableford tournament.


George Chighizola shot a 40 to take first in the A flight, Ed Kollar shot a 39 to take second, G.J. Paulson shot a 38 to take third and Jeff Schreiber shot a 37 to take fourth.


Richard Brown on the B flight with a 45, Michael Gamberg and Bill Centers tied for second with a 40 and Richard Kostner finished fourth with a 39.


Gerry McCarthy took first in the C flight with a 43. John Dorman and Marty Lane tied for second with a 41 and John Miller Jr., and John Guidicatti tied for fourth with a 38.


Larry Lockwood took first in the D flight. Don Harrison took second with a 39 and Ken Sharples, Richard Ryan and John Elliott tied for third with a 37.


Michael Gyll took closest to the pin honors on No. 1 and Gerry McCarthy won the same on No. 18.

Junior golf clinic


The Carson Valley Junior Golf program will conduct a six-week program that teaches the fundamentals of golf including etiquette, putting, chipping and full swing. Of course, participants will receive plenty of time on the golf course.


Juniors will attend the clinic at least once a week at the Carson Valley Golf Club.


Cost is $120 and includes clubs, instruction, snacks, golf goodies and a certificate of completion.

Carson Valley Golf Club will also conduct introduction to junior golf clinics Sept. 9. Into clinics cost $15.


A clinic for ages 5-6 is noon to 1:30 p.m., ages 7-9 is 2 to 3:30 p.m. and ages 10-14 is 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Nevada Lightning softball tryouts


The Nevada Lightning girls' fastpitch softball 12-under team is looking for experienced tournament players for the 2006 fall and 2007 seasons.


Tryouts will be conducted through September.
