Minden approved creating a historic district for the sole purpose of protecting a deal that would allow the Hellwinkels to lease the C.O.D. Garage to a casino. County commissioners will hear a new rule today that would require a casino to have at least 100 rooms before it could be approved in Douglas County. The Carson Valley Inn, Topaz Lodge and Sharkey's are proposing the new ordinance.
The woman allegedly responsible for the accident that killed a 90-year-old Topaz Ranch Estates man has been charged with gross misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. Windie L. Atchison, 33, was booked and released on Tuesday in connection with the May 26 collision that killed Darrell David Daugherty.
It is supposed to get up to 90 degrees today, but it was hotter than that yesterday, so we're betting the high will go to 93. There is supposed to be a slight cool-down over the weekend with the high dropping down to 82 by Sunday.
