Jesse Lee Courtney
1933-2006
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Doyle Cemetery in Doyle, Calif., with an honor guard presentation by the Reno Police Department for Jesse Lee Courtney, 72, who died Sept. 5, 2006, in Carson City.
Born Oct. 15, 1933, in Kentucky, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge from service he worked in law enforcement for 34 years. He started his career in Lynwood, Calif., as a police officer and transferred to Bridgeport, Calif. in 1961 where he became a deputy sheriff for Mono County. He transferred to Reno Police Department in 1969 and became a detective. Upon retirement from the Reno Police Department, he and his wife Robbie Lynn Courtney moved to Oregon to semi-retire and open a restaurant. He moved back to California to be closer to his family after his wife died.
He loved to fish and he enjoyed helping his ex-wife (whom he remained close with) at the Sportsmen's Inn restaurant in Bridgeport. He loved to do crossword puzzles and play the nickel machines at the Carson Valley Inn.
Mr. Courtney is survived by his children, son Gordon Courtney of Bridgeport, Calif., and daughter Debbie Courtney-Parisi and her husband Pier Parisi of Fort Collins, Colo; his ex-wife and good friend, Jean Courtney of Bridgeport; three grandchildren, Gino Parisi, Michela Parisi and Destiny Courtney; his best friend, Wayne Carter of Myrtle Creek, Ore; numerous friends and family including the Perez Family of Sonora, Calif., the Pourchot Family of Doyle, Calif., Jim Dougherty of Reno PD and Kim Courtney.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
