The Family Support Council and The Purple Ribbon Coalition invites you to the ninth annual Candlelight Vigil Oct. 2. The Candelight Vigil takes place the first Monday in October which is Domestic Violence Awareness month.

At the vigil, everyone will gather at the pavilion at Lampe Park (near the stream) at 6 p.m. for the release of doves symbolizing "freedom to victims of domestic violence."

At 6:30 p.m. the Honor Guard, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, local dignitaries, clergy and community members will walk with lit candles in hand to the Family Support Council located at 1255 Waterloo, Suite A, Gardnerville, led by bagpiper Rick James playing "Amazing Grace."

Family Support Council Executive Director Kelli Johnson will emcee the event, followed by guest speaker Poco Davis, governor of Soroptomists International.

Join the Family Support Council and The Purple Ribbon Coalition in commemorating victims of domestic violence who have lost their lives and those who are still suffering. Refreshments will be served at both Lampe Park and the Family Support Council.
