After their glider was released prematurely, a Soar Minden instructor and his student clipped a lean-to and telephone pole in the building vehicle maintenance yard, knocking off a transformer, according to Airport Manager Jim Braswell.

A report by the Federal Aviation Agency said the plane was trying to return to the runway, but after the crash came to rest on the west side of Minden-Tahoe Airport.

Both instructor and student were hospitalized, and the Federal Aviation report lists the highest injury in this accident as "serious."

The plane lost a wing and is considered a complete loss, said Airport Manager Jim Braswell.
