A lightning strike reportedly started a small fire at Highway 395 near Sonora Junction at about 7:14 p.m. in the Walker River Canyon. It was one of three or four small fires that burned on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Ralston fire continues to burn in heavy timber on the west slope of the Sierra 10 miles east of Forest Hill.

Firefighters are concerned that with the strong winds expected today they will have a hard time keeping the fire from breaking through the lines. The fire has spread to 7,373 acres and there is a line just over half way around it.

Expect more smoke from this fire to enter Carson Valley.
