Douglas County's volunteer organization Active Volunteers In Douglas, held their first annual barbeque at the Corley Ranch on Sept. 13.
An estimated 250 residents who volunteer their time and efforts attended the event.
The Carson Valley Chapter of Kiwanis barbequed for the event.
Several volunteers were recognized at the barbecue. Anthony Barton, who serves with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received the President's Gold Volunteer Award for contributing in excess of four hundred hours of community service within the past twelve months and Sheriff Ron Pierini recognized Beverly Thayer as the sheriff's department's Volunteer of the Year for 2006.
The Food Closet of Douglas County recognized Fred Asmann as their Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for 2006. Ester Hildebrand was recognized by the Douglas County Senior Center having received the President's Life Time Volunteer Award for her more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service.
