Artistic Viewpoints Gallery and Studio will be hosting an artist's reception for Reno artist Nancy Giannini 1-4 p.m. Saturday, as part of the Carson Valley Art Gallery Association's Second Saturday events.
Giannini, who paints a wide variety of subjects, finds old buildings and barns to be her favorite subject matter. The varied architectural styles are reflections of the purpose, climate and sub-culture of an area and, to Giannini, they represent the hard work, determination and future of our American heritage. Painting in oils, Giannini documents the historical elements as well as the rural atmosphere of early Western life in the natural colors of rural settings - something she strongly feels should be preserved. Traveling throughout the West in search of these vanishing structures has been in itself, a historical and educational experience.
Her latest works of the Valley Bar are especially moving since a fire destroyed the structure last spring.
"Valley Bar" and other paintings of historical barns and buildings of Northern Nevada, as well as landscapes of the area, will be on display at Artistic Viewpoints Gallery and Studio,1368 Highway 395, Bldg. B, Gardnerville throughout the month of October.
Many of Giannini's paintings are hanging in private and corporate collections across the United States. She has also displayed her paintings in Monterey Peninsula art galleries and the Rosicrucian Museum in San Jose, Calif.
Second Saturday is a monthly event sponsored by the seven galleries of the Carson Valley. A brochure and map of the gallery locations is available at any of the participating galleries in Carson Valley and Carson City.
